Microsoft Teams backgrounds
Teams custom background without Premium
You do not need Teams Premium for a custom background in Microsoft Teams: any user can open Effects and avatars → Backgrounds → Add new and upload an image, unless their admin has turned custom images off. Teams Premium adds organization backgrounds that an admin uploads and requires centrally; without it, the MeetingBrand Agent places your company's branded background in each employee's Teams background gallery and they pick it once.

MeetingBrand creates branded Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and Zoom backgrounds from a company's website: it fetches the logo and brand colors, mounts the logo as a physical sign in one of 22 realistic office rooms and exports each background as a 1920×1080 PNG. Delivery is built in for Microsoft Teams via the MeetingBrand Agent, Google Meet via the MeetingBrand Chrome extension; Zoom and directory sync are coming. It is free during early access.
What Teams Premium adds — and what it does not
Teams Premium lets an admin upload organization backgrounds in the Teams admin center and require them in meetings. Uploading your own custom image is part of standard Microsoft Teams and does not need Premium.
So for most companies the question is not whether a custom Teams background is possible. It is how every employee gets the same approved, branded image — without buying Teams Premium and without emailing a file around and hoping people upload it.
A company-wide Teams background without Teams Premium
MeetingBrand creates the background from your company website: it fetches your logo and brand colors and mounts the logo as a physical sign in one of 22 office rooms, with 14 sign treatments, exported at 1920×1080.
The MeetingBrand Agent, a small helper for Windows and macOS, delivers it. IT installs it once with the Intune (Windows) or Jamf (macOS) script generated in My team; the Agent matches each device to a person by e-mail, so people added by CSV are covered. After Teams restarts, the branded image is in Effects and avatars → Backgrounds; the employee selects it once, Teams keeps it, and later changes arrive without another step.
What it does not do: it does not switch anyone's active background, because no meeting platform lets a third party do that by API. The Agent builds are unsigned developer builds for now, so Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper will prompt.

How to make it — step by step
- Create your brand. Open meetingbrand.com/app/ and sign up with your work email. MeetingBrand fetches your company's public logo and brand colors from that domain and renders 3 starter backgrounds (Concrete corner loft, Brick creative loft, Navy executive study). With a personal email, type your website instead, or upload a logo.
- Pick the room and the sign. Choose from 22 office rooms and 14 sign treatments — brass, oak, backlit, LED, glass and more — and turn on the optional name bar with each person's name, title, department and company.
- Install the MeetingBrand Agent. Add your people by CSV in My team, generate the Intune or Jamf script and deploy it once. No Teams Premium licence is involved.
- Each person selects it once. In Teams, open Effects and avatars → Backgrounds: after Teams restarts the branded background is in the gallery. Select it once and Teams keeps it.
